We all know how important exercise is for us, both inside and out, but sometimes it can be really hard to find the motivation to get up and do it. Here are a few ways to make getting that weekly exercise a little more fun!


  • The right equipment!
    • Invest in a good pair of sneakers! If your feet aren’t happy, neither are you.
    • We tend to feel better when we look better, so try to find a few workout outfits that are comfortable and that you feel good in.
    • Music can help push you, so put together a great playlist or chose a workout series on your favorite music app. The music will help you move!
  • Do what you like to do!
    • If you’ve got moves, try a Zumba or dance class.
    • If you’re a walker, turn it up with a hike.
    • Hop on a bike for a good work out or try a spinning class.
    • Like variety? Try a gym where you can choose your workout depending on your mood.
  • Buddy System.
    • If you have a great friend who’s also interested in staying fit, join forces! It’s fun to workout with a friend and you can motivate one another to keep going – but make sure you choose wisely and don’t become dependent on them, you don’t want to flake if/when they can’t make it.
    • Set up a plan with your buddy for a weekly schedule to stick to. Try to find days and times that are somewhat safe from changes so it becomes a regular part of your week.
  • Mix it up…
    • Muscle Memory can make the same workout less effective over time, so try to mix up your workout routine.
    • Introductory classes are usually free, so try something new! You won’t know if you don’t like it until you give it a shot.
  • Plan ahead.
    • Unless you love to just wing it, try setting a loose schedule of your weekly workout and add a calendar alert. You might stick it if you have a plan.
    • Lay out your workout clothes the night before. Seriously, it helps if you wake up unmotivated.
  • Apps
    • There are plenty of great apps to make our workouts fun: Here are a few:
      • Strava – tracks your every move, lets you post your progress, see a map of your route, cheer on your other Strava Friends, add pics from your route, and you can even post to your social media accounts.
      • Charity Miles – lets you donate to your favorite charity for every workout! You’ll help your body and soul all in one workout!
      • Sworkit – is one of many personalized workout apps that help guide you in your very own tricked-out workout.

  • Dance
  • Workout Video Games
