Healthy Skin Through Hydration

HealthySkinThroughHydration

Staying hydrated enables your body to function to it’s fullest potential. Water–this simple ingredient–aids your body in weight loss, absorbing nutrients, and even digestion. Along with staying nourished through healthy, pure foods, you can improve your quality of life by just drinking more water!

Aside from these great benefits, drinking more water can greatly improve the look of your skin. It’s important to drink the right amount of water everyday in order to see the benefits to your complexion. Make sure to lock in moisture with a product you can apply topically to optimize your results.

How much water to drink
According to the Institute of Medicine, adequate intake of water for women is 2.2 liters of water daily. This equates to about 9 cups of water. You might recall the 8 by 8 rule, which popularized the idea that you should drink eight 8-ounce glasses of water everyday. While you’d be drinking about 1.9 liters of water everyday by following that rule, it can still help you get to beautiful, hydrated skin. If you live in a warmer climate or sweat often, it might be a good idea to drink more water. Listen to what your body needs.

Flush Toxins
Water helps keep bodily functions flowing and toxin free. Often, when your body isn’t able to deal with toxins in your environment or from processed foods, you may see blemishes on your skin. When pores become clogged and inflamed, your overall complexion can look less clean and refined.

Plump Skin Naturally
When you’re dehydrated, one of the first organs in your body to suffer is your skin. Dehydrated skin is dry, and that can cause your skin to become more wrinkled over time. Your eyes can look more sunken in, and skin can become inflamed easier. By drinking the recommended amount of water everyday, you can help improve the look of your skin. Especially if you’re replacing soda or sugary drinks with water, these benefits can be even more noticeable.

How to Start the Habit
To integrate more hydration into your day, make sure to keep water within reach at all times. If you get bored easily by the taste (or lack thereof), try infusing with cucumber, melon, mint, or lemon. Change it up and keep it interesting! You can also try eating more hydrating foods. We get about 20% of our daily fluid intake from foods, so load up on those fruits and veggies!
