Superfoods for Skin: Carrots

Carrots

The doc says carrots are “what’s up” for skincare!  Carrots are a great addition to any healthy diet, but did you know they’re great for your skin too? Just one more reason to love this vibrant and tasty root! Rich in beta-carotene, this delicious vegetable can have a significant impact on your beauty goals.

Beta-Carotene

The main superfood ingredient in carrots is beta-carotene. Beta-carotene is found in high amounts in carrots and is an antioxidant that your body converts to vitamin A, reducing environmental oxygen damage. This vitamin contributes to skin repair and can help protect your skin from the sun’s damaging rays and can even boost the effectiveness of your sunscreen.

Eat More Carrots!

A great way to get carrots into your diet is to keep fresh baby carrots on hand in the fridge for munching on when you need a quick snack. Carrots are also great sliced into matchstick slices and put on a salad. Prefer your carrots cooked?  Even better!  Cooked carrots contain even more beta-carotene than their uncooked counterpart. Just don’t overdo it!  Eating too many carrots can actually cause skin to turn yellow!  Fortunately, you’d have to eat three full carrots a day to create this effect, so just enjoy them in moderation!
