Superfoods for your Skin: Berries for Beauty

Berries for Beauty

Christie’s Bioclock Activation System is a great way to care for your skin from the outside, but your skin’s beauty depends on how you care for it on the inside as well.  The foods you eat can have a dramatic effect on your skin’s radiance, hydration, texture, and resilience.  One deliciously beneficial food is berries.  Berries – especially dark ones – contain nutrients, vitamins, and minerals that can have a noticeable effect on your skin’s beauty.

The Science Behind the Berry

Red, purple and black berries contain powerful anti-oxidants which prevent the free radicals that age our skin.  Want to prevent wrinkles?  A half cup of strawberries, blueberries and blackberries eaten regularly can be a delicious weapon against visible signs of aging. Dark berries are high in vitamin C, which not only has antioxidant properties, but also decreases cell damage and supports the healing process.  It helps promote collagen growth and prevents free radical damage.  Vitamin C can also enhance the effectiveness of sunscreens, including the SPF found in Christie’s  RECAPTURE 360 + IR Defense Anti-Aging Day Cream!

Vitamin E is another vitamin found in berries like cherries, blackberries, and blueberries.  This antioxidant is essential for healthy skin and fast healing.  Berries also contain quercetin, another antioxidant that can reduce inflammation which can reduce puffiness and the appearance of blemishes.  The high water content in berries like raspberries, blackberries and blueberries can also help with skin’s hydration.

Adding Berries

Adding beneficial berries to your diet can be simple as well as tasty!  Add a handful of blueberries or blackberries to your yogurt or add sliced strawberries to your cereal.  A handful of frozen mixed berries, a spoonful of honey and a 1/2 cup of unsweetened almond or coconut milk and blended in a blender can make a simple and delicious smoothie that can serve as a quick breakfast or snack.  Even just keeping a bowl of berries handy on the counter or in the fridge can encourage quick snacking.  In no time, adding berries to your diet can not only improve your health, but also the beauty of your skin!

What wonderful information. I love on my weetbix of a morning sliced strawberries, blueberries and low fat yoghurt with a tiny milk but no sugar. With yoghurt for dessert or just as a treat. Love them and this is a wonderful time of the season for fruit I try when available to have the fresh ones..
