Protecting your skin is not difficult. One of the easiest ways is to use sunscreen daily, even on days when the sun is not shining. While the visible light is reduced, up to 40% of UV rays can still penetrate the clouds and reach your skin. Even if it is a cloudy day, you still need sunscreen and protection!
The Skin Cancer Foundation recommends using a broad-spectrum sunscreen with a minimum of SPF 15 (or Sun Protection Factor). If you work outside or spend a lot of time outdoors, you need a stronger and water resistant type of sunscreen. Broad spectrum sunscreens protect against both UVA and UVB.
More recently, scientists have been looking at the effects of IR or infrared radiation from the sun, and they’ve found that it generally penetrates as far as some of the UV rays.
