Sleeping Beauty – 3 Easy Tricks to a Beautiful Night’s Sleep

Beauty Sleep

We’ve all heard that eight hours of sleep is essential for good health, but there are reasons it’s called “beauty sleep”. Poor sleep routines and habits can affect your appearance, causing puffiness and dark eye circles, uneven skin tone, dark spots, dryness, redness, and wrinkles. Our bodies repair themselves during sleep and without it the ability to restore itself on a cellular level is disrupted. Fortunately, there are some simple steps we can take to wake beautifully refreshed.

1. Reduce Blue Light

Many of us use cell phones, laptops, and tablets well into the evening hours, but did you know that this is disruptive to your sleep? The blue light emitted by these devices can reduce the melatonin produced by our bodies – a chemical critical to a restful night’s sleep. Luckily, there are apps and programs available that can change the blue light emitted from your devices to a warmer, yellower light (on Apple devices, just turn on the Night Shift feature). Many of these programs can automatically apply this color change at sundown, limiting your exposure to blue light and enabling your brain to produce the chemicals necessary for a good night’s sleep.

Don’t want to bother with downloading programs to all your devices? You can also buy specially tinted amber or yellow eyeglass lenses that will block the blue light from your device screens.

2. Change Your Pillowcase

Unless you always sleep on your back, your pillow can crush and pull your skin, causing wrinkles and creases that will ultimately age your appearance. Sleeping on a silk or satin pillowcase is much gentler on your skin and you won’t wake with lines and creases in your face. Over time, this simple change can help slow the damage that can be done by less forgiving fabric fibers.

3. Always Cleanse Before Bed

Since so much of your skin repair takes place during deep restful sleep, neglecting to fully remove makeup before bed can clog pores and inhibit your skin’s repair cycle. Always cleanse your skin thoroughly before bed and apply a reparative moisturizer like Christie Brinkley’s Anti-aging Night Cream while your skin is still moist to lock in hydration. Get a good night’s sleep and you’ll wake to a rejuvenated, radiant and more beautiful you!
